The Itinerary

Day 1 – Depart the USA

Catch your flight to Jordan (airfare not included).

Day 2 – Arrive in the Kingdom of Jordan

Arrive in the Kingdom of Jordan and transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 3 – Amman and Jerash

Begin your day with a tour of Amman, Jordan’s capital and the fourth-most-visited Arab city in the world. Amman was known as Philadelphia in Roman times -- one of the ten cities of the Decapolis, and before that, as Rabbath Ammon. Visit the Citadel Museum, whose exhibits include artifacts from prehistoric times until the 15th century AD, including a bronze Dead Sea scroll in Aramaic. Then, journey to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Stroll through the oval piazza and wander along colonnaded streets etched by the wheels of ancient chariots. Stand in the grand theatre where an onstage whisper can be heard in the top row. End your day with a restful night’s sleep in Amman. (B, D)

Day 4 – Madaba, Mount Nebo, and Petra by Night

From Amman, travel south to Madaba, the City of Mosaics, to visit the Church of Saint George with its sixth-century Byzantine, mosaic map showing Jerusalem and other holy sites. Travel up to Mount Nebo, where Moses caught a glimpse of the Promised Land (Deut. 34). You might even glimpse the rooftops of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Then, make your way to Petra to experience the rose-colored city hidden in the Jordanian desert by night. Lit with over 1,500 candles, Petra becomes a magical experience as you walk the entire Siq to the Treasury. (B, D)

Day 5 – Petra

Spend the day exploring Petra. Its entrance passes through a long, narrow gorge known as the Siq, which can only be accessed by carriage or on foot. Once inside the city, marvel at the intricate detail of a city that was cut into the cliff sides of rose-colored rock. Then, learn to cook like a local during a step-by-step cooking class and take the recipes home to share your newfound foreign fare. (B, D)

Day 6 – Wadi Rum

Make your way to Wadi Rum and enjoy breakfast in a Bedouin tent just as the Israelites did on their way to the Promised Land. Then imagine yourself exploring the Red Plant as you ride through the Jordanian desert on a 4x4. (B, D)

Day 7 – Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea

High above the sands, your day begins with a hot air balloon ride. See for miles across the arid landscape and imagine your Old Testament heroes trekking through the desert. Then, answer the call to the quiet, salty shores of the Dead Sea to enjoy an afternoon of leisure. Float in the mineral-laden waters or enjoy a spa service or two that will invigorate you for your return home. (B, D)

Day 8 – Return Home

Return home with memories to cherish and share from your time in the Kingdom of Jordan. (B)
