Siena remains largely untouched by time or decay. Its Piazza del Campo buzzes with life. Twice a year – it hosts the Palio di Siena. The screams of locals championing their village’s rider fill the air as horses race at breakneck speed around the center. The sweet and savory smells from surrounding cafés and restaurants waft through the air in all seasons. Follow your nose, and you can’t miss. Stroll through nearby Monteriggioni at your own pace. Shadows looming from the Middle Ages seem bright as day. Legends run deep and history prevails in this picturesque village. (B)
Get ready to cook like an Italian! Mamma Paola will guide you through many traditional and seasonal Italian dishes during a 3-hour cooking class. Discover recipe secrets and practice new cooking techniques as you chart a course through the flavors of Tuscany. The afternoon in Figline Valdarno is yours. Lounge it up in the local wellness center (to be booked in advance for an additional charge) or explore the romantic atmosphere. (B, L)
At the foot of the Apennine Mountains, lies Florence, considered the Cradle of the Renaissance. Its borders contain the largest collection of historical buildings and art in the whole of Italy. The Medici family curated most of its hallmarked artistry, leveraging culture into political power. Your local guide will showcase marvels within Tuscany’s capital city, including the majestic Duomo, built in 1296, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Baptistery with its renowned “Gates of Paradise.” Follow medieval streets to the most striking square in Florence, Piazza della Signoria! The many fabulous sculptures and samples of Medieval architecture give the square a grand open-air-museum vibe. During your afternoon free time, stroll down cobblestone lanes, through majestic squares, and across ancient bridges, impressing the romance and culture of Florence into your heart . (B)
San Gimignano is known as Medieval Manhattan due its many towers. It’s also known for its wine. In fact, some of the most highly awarded wine in Italy was made in San Gimignano. Enjoy a sample of this wine during your tasting experience and accompanying lunch at a local farm or winery. San Gimignano is then yours. Take in iconic masterpieces such as the cathedral, Palazzo Communale, and the Torre Grossa or stroll the town like a local and enjoy the beauty all around. (B, L)
Savor a free day in Florence. Cross the Ponte Vecchio for a slower pace and natural atmosphere. (B)
Return home with life-changing memories.*
