Day 1 May 6 - Depart the USA

Depart on your international overnight flight.

Day 2 May 7 - Arrive in Rome / Driving tour of the city / Check into the hotel / Dinner (included) with the group

Arrive in Rome and enjoy a driving tour of the city. Check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 May 8 - Ancient Rome – Pantheon / Trevi Fountain / Spanish Steps / Mamertine Prison / Forum / Colosseum / Dinner is on your own

Explore the many wonders of ancient Rome as you visit the magnificent Pantheon. Stop at the famous Trevi Fountain. Legend says those who toss a coin into the fountain will one day return to Rome to toss another into the waters of Trevi. From the most sacred hill of ancient Rome, Campidoglio, view the Forum. See the Circus Maximus, the Arch of Titus, the famous Baths of Caracalla, the Arch of Constantine, and the Victor Emanuel Monument. Explore the romance of Rome as you climb the graceful Spanish Steps. Also, near the Forum is the Mamertine Prison. It was the site where Romans kept their high-profile prisoners until they died or were executed. It is revered as the place Peter was held before his crucifixion. Finish the day at the Colosseum, where so much history has occurred. Return to your hotel. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 4 May 9 - Vatican – Sistine Chapel (Early Entry) / St. Peter’s Square & Cathedral / St. John Basilica Lateran Church / Catacombs / Appian Way / Dinner is on your own

Enjoy an early entry to see the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican Museum. The conclave to elect new popes is still held here. Visit the Vatican, home to St. Peter’s Square, and tour the Basilica. Visit St. John’s Lateran Church. Step beneath the surface into the Catacombs of Callixtus, built along the Appian Way. Here, 16 popes from the 2nd through 4th centuries were interred, though they have been removed to various churches over the centuries. Return to your hotel. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 5 May 10 - Morning flight to Geneva / Driving tour of the city to see the World Council of Churches / UN Palace and the Flower Clock / Check into the hotel for dinner (included) and overnight.

This morning, you will board your flight to Geneva. Your guide will greet you there and escort you on a driving tour of the city to see such sites as the Headquarters of the World Council of Churches, the UN Palace, and the famous Flower Clock. Check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 May 11 - Geneva - Reformation Monument / St. Pierre Cathedral / Plainpalais Cemetery (Calvin) / City Center – Old Town / Time on own / Dinner is on your own

Today, you will visit the Reformation Monument, which honors the various men and women who led the way in the break from Rome. Continue to St. Pierre’s Cathedral, 400 years in the making. Visit the Plainpalais Cemetery, where John Calvin is buried. This afternoon, enjoy time on your own in the city center before returning to your hotel. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Day 7 May 12 - Train to Strasbourg / See the following churches where Calvin preached / St. Madeleine and Temple Neuf / Visit the Cathedrale Notre Dame and its astronomical clock / Dinner (included) and overnight

This morning, you will board the train to Strasbourg. In Strasbourg, you will visit St. Madeleine and Temple Neuf churches, where Calvin preached. Also, see the Cathedral de Notre Dame and its famed Astronomical Clock. Check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 8 May 13 - Heidelberg – Castle and Old Town / Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Medieval inner city / Overnight here (Rothenburg) / Dinner is on your own

Travel to Heidelberg and visit the lightning-struck castle and explore the charming Old Town, complete with cobblestone lanes and a medieval atmosphere. Continue to Rothenburg Ob Ter Tauber, a medieval city untouched by modern wars. Check into your hotel. Dinner is on your own here.

Day 9 May 14 - Erfurt / City tour – Old Town / Augustine Monastery / Jewish Synagogue / Overnight here /Dinner is on your own

Erfurt was called the “city of spires” in Luther’s day. Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Augustinian Monastery, where Luther was ordained into the priesthood in 1507. Check into your hotel. Dinner is on your own.

Day 10 May 15 - Eisenach/ Luther House / Wartburg Castle / Return to Erfurt / Dinner is on your own

Martin Luther lived in Eisenach during his student days. Learn about Luther’s life and the Reformation at the Luther House Museum, and tour the famous Wartburg Castle, where Luther translated the New Testament into German in 1522. View the room where Luther completed his translation in just 11 weeks. Return to your hotel. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 11 May 16 - Eisleben and Wittenberg / Overnight in Wittenberg / Dinner (included) at the hotel / Visit from Missionaries in Berlin

Travel to Eisleben, where Luther‘s life both began and ended. Luther was baptized at St. Petri (St. Peter & St. Paul’s Church), where you can see portraits of his wife and parents. This charming little town includes the Luther Family Home as well as the house Luther was visiting at the time of his death. Walk the medieval cobblestone streets past St. Andrew’s Church, where Luther preached his last sermon. wander the town of Wittenberg, where Luther lived and taught for 36 years. See where he posted his 95 Theses on the castle church door, giving voice to the Reformation. Visit Schlosskirche, where Luther was buried, and explore Luther Halle, a former monastery where Martin lived with his family. Explore on your own through the town’s museums and shops. Check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 12 May 17 - Fritzlar / Marburg / Mainz / dinner (included) and overnight

Travel to Fritzlar today and visit this town known as the birthplace of the German Kingdom - dating to Charlemagne. Continue to Marburg, home to the first Protestant University founded in 1527. Here, in 1529, Martin Luther and Zwingli met to attempt to resolve their differences over the Reformation Movement. Finish the day in Mainz and check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 13 May 18 - Mainz – Gutenberg Museum / Rhine River afternoon cruise / Frankfurt / dinner (included) and overnight

This morning, visit the Gutenberg Museum, dedicated to Johann Gutenberg, who developed the process of moveable type that allowed printing to be done on a production scale. Enjoy a cruise on the Rhine River past medieval castles before staying overnight in the Frankfurt area. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
