Daily Itinerary
Day 1 October 30 - Depart the USA
Your Wesley Heritage travel study program begins as you depart the United States on your international flight to England.
Day 2 October 31 - Cotswolds/ Swindon
Arrive in London and head to the Cotswolds. Introduce concepts and plans for meetings throughout the week while on the bus traveling to Swindon after the Cotswolds visit (1/2 hour).
Day 3 November 1 - Stratford Upon Avon/ Oxford
Today includes stops in Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford. See Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s cottage, and Trinity Church. Enjoy a walking tour of the town. In the afternoon, travel to Oxford for a walking tour. See Christ Church College and the chapel, the Sheldonian Theater, and the Bodleian Library. Return to Swindon for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 November 2 - Bath/ Roman Ruins/ Hanham Mount/ Dinner and overnight in Bristol
Day 5 November 3 - Bristol/ Charles Wesley’s Home/ New Room/ Day of Lectures and Dialog/ Dinner and overnight in Bristol
Lecture here at the New Room, discussing early meeting formats and Charles Wesley’s impact on Christian music forms. Enjoy group conversations with a focus on Lyrical Theology, with references from the book, “Singing The Faith: Soundings of Lyrical Theology In The Methodist Tradition”, Paul Wesley Chilcote
Day 6 November 4 - Windsor and London
Visit Windsor Gardens then head to London for a panoramic city tour. Enjoy Evensong at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Arrive at your hotel. Dinner will be on your own. Enjoy a group discussion on the bus ride to London (1 hour), talking about the evolution of today’s worship forms and music styles. Discussion leaders will reference and recommend several helpful books and published resources.
Day 7 November 5 - Free day in London
Today, you are on your own in London. Attend a service at Central Mission Church or Wesley Chapel. The afternoon is free for the theatre, museums, or maybe a Beatles tour. Dinner is on your own. Overnight in London.
Day 8 November 6 - Wesley’s London
Head to Wesley’s Chapel and museum. See John Wesley’s home, Bunhill Fields, and The Aldersgate Flame. Take a walking tour to St. Paul’s Cathedral then tour the cathedral. The afternoon will be free. Your hotel will be in London with dinner on your own. A full lecture and time for discussion will be planned for our time at Wesley’s Chapel (1-2 hours).
Day 9 November 7- London
Day 10 November 8 - Depart for the USA
