This morning, depart Atlanta and head to Birmingham, stopping in Anniston along the way to see the Freedom Riders National Monument. Tour the 16th Street Baptist Church. Here, four young girls were killed in a racially motivated bombing. The church continues to serve its community today and is a landmark of the Birmingham Civil Rights District. Enjoy lunch together before heading to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to learn more about the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s. Drive by the historic Bethel Baptist Church on your way out of Birmingham. Drive south toward Selma. Meet with a local guide to learn more about downtown Selma. Weather permitting, walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Travel along the Selma
to Montgomery National Historic Trail, stopping at the Lowndes County Interpretive Center along the way. Stop for lunch in Montgomery before heading on a driving tour of the city, including the Alabama State Capitol, First Baptist Church on Ripley Street,

Today, visit the 3 Legacy Sites. Start with the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. Overlooking the Alabama River, the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park honors the lives of the 10 million Black people who were enslaved in America. Travel along the river on a guided boat tour before viewing all the art within the outdoor park. Then head to the Legacy Museum. At the museum, trace the evolution of the dehumanizing myth of racial difference and its legacy throughout American history. Discover the past through first-person historical narratives and interactive media at this state of- the-art museum. Enjoy lunch at the museum. Then, finally, the last of the 3 Legacy Sites – the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. This outdoor memorial remembers those who were killed in racial terror lynchings between 18977 and 1950.
