Daily Itinerary

Day 1 April 17, 2023 – Depart the USA

Depart the USA on your flight to Israel.

Day 2 April 18, 2023 – Welcome to the Land of the Bible

Arrive in Israel and meet our representative, who will transfer you to your hotel in Netanya for a welcome briefing, dinner, and overnight.

Day 3 April 19, 2023 – Shoah (Holocaust Memorial Day- there will be a siren at 10 am)

Enjoy the opening ceremony of your journey at Caesarea Maritima with a guided tour of the ruins. Then, volunteer at Mount Carmel. Head to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Follow the Excavator:
Discover Caesarea, as your Excavator reveals the Christian story of ancient Caesarea Maritima, including archaeological findings such as wall paintings of saints.

Volunteer for Nature:
At Carmel Forest (Mount Carmel), enjoy the natural beauty and an open-air activity. Weed out invasive species to make room for local plants, trim and prune shrubs and trees, and prepare walking paths for upcoming visitors.

Day 4 April 20, 2023 – Yodfat and Tzipori

Discover and help conserve the ancient capital of Galilee at the ruins of Tzipori. Learn about the history of Galilee at Yodfat and during an evening lecture about the Galilean revolt. Eat well and rest up for the next day’s adventures at your hotel in Tiberias.

Follow the Excavator:
Join the Excavator, Prof. Mordechai Aviam, to learn about the Life and Death of the Jewish Galilean town of Yodfat (Jotapata).

Conservation Activity:
Located in Northern Israel, Tzipori was once the capital of the Galilee, the seat of the Sanhedrin, and the place where the Mishna was completed. Take part in conservation activities of one of its buildings.

Guided Tour:
Follow in the footsteps of Mary, Mother of Jesus, through Tzipori, which according to tradition was the birthplace of Mary, and the hometown of Anne and Joachim, Mary’s parents.

Evening Lecture:
Learn about the Great Revolt in Galilee during and after the Great Jewish Revolt in light of the archaeological finds and texts.

Day 5 April 21, 2023 – Chorazin

After a day at Chorazin and an optional evening ethnic event, return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Excavation Activity:
Uncover the past at the ancient village of Chorazin. Mentioned in the New Testament as one of three towns, together with Bethsaida and Capernaum, Jesus cursed Chorazin because they did not heed his teachings.

Evening Ethnic Event:
Opt for this special event for an additional cost. Details to follow.

Day 6 April 22, 2023 – Tel Hazor, Banias, and Amud Stream

Head north and discover Canaanite ruins, Roman and Byzantine religious history, and one of the most beautiful natural water features in Israel. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Conservation activity:
Perhaps the greatest of the cities during the Late Canaanite period, Tel Hazor is identified with the biblical Hazor and boasts a 3,000-year-old water system, which you will have the opportunity to help conserve.

Follow the Excavator:
Enjoy a guided tour of Banias (Caesarea Philippi), where a recent excavation at the temple’s terrace revealed a Roman dedication to the god, Pan, which was replaced by a Byzantine church.

Volunteer for Nature:
Amud Stream is one of the most attractive and beautiful streams In Israel, with numerous ancient watermills, pools, and wildflowers. Take part in helping clean and preserve one of the ancient aqueducts, the habitat of the rare Salamander.

Day 7 April 23, 2023 – Kursi, Susita, and an Evening Lecture

Help excavate Kursi, explore Susita, and enjoy an evening lecture after returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Excavation activity:
Kursi National Park contains the impressive remains of a monastery and church from the Byzantine period. According to tradition, this is the site of the Miracle of the Swine.

Follow the Excavator:
Guided by the Chief Excavator of Susita (Hippos), walk through and discover this amazing ancient city, with its cathedral, churches, streets, and public buildings.

Evening lecture
Enjoy a lecture describing and explaining the discovery and research of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls with behind-the-scenes stories.

Day 8 April 24, 2023 – Chorazin, Jesus Trail, and Drive South

Begin your day excavating Chorazin. Then, enjoy a hike along the Jesus trail before you drive south for your first overnight in Judea near Bethlehem.

Excavation activity:
It is our second day of excavating Chorazin, one of three towns Jesus cursed for not heeding his warnings. Discover the ancient Jewish culture and what led to its demise. Then, follow in Christ’s footsteps on the Jesus trail to Capernaum, through a beautiful path with the blossom of spring flowers.

Day 9 April 25, 2023 – (Memorial Day - there will be a siren at 11 am) - Old City of Jerusalem and Herodium

Explore the City of David with fascinating treks through Hezekiah’s Tunnel and the Pilgrim Route to the Southern Steps of the Temple Mount. Wander through the Israel Museum, where you can ponder the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Shrine of the Book and have a birds-eye view of first-century Jerusalem at the Model City. Discover the Herodium and head back to your hotel to prepare for your flight home.

Follow the Excavator:
At Herodium, enjoy a guided tour of the ruins where King Herod challenged the forces of nature. In the first century BC, the great builder created one of the most daring structures of the ancient world.

Day 10 April 26, 2023 – (Independence Day in Israel)

Return home with experiences to share and memories on which to reflect.
