About the Oberammergau Passion Play
Since 1634, the most famous Passion Play in the world has taken place in Oberammergau. The tradition, maintained and experienced almost without interruption for over 380 years, of putting on the play about the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ every ten years, will be continued for the 42nd time in 2020. It is regarded as the most important Passion Play in the world. The village at the edge of the Bavarian Alps expects approximately 500,000 visitors for the passion play, over half of which will be international guests. A special law is in effect to insure that all actors of the world's largest amateur dramatic performance come from the village. All participants, from actors playing the big speaking parts such as Jesus, Mary or Judas, through members of the choir, orchestra members, firemen and ushers, must have been born in Oberammergau or lived there for at least 20 years. Over 2,000 Oberammergau villagers will participate in the 2020 Passion Play.

Day 2 Arrive in Munich
Arrive in Munich where you will be met by our local representatives. Enjoy a tour of historic Munich, including a stop at the Rathaus (Town Hall) to watch the famous Glockenspiel. This historic clock from 1908 chimes its 43 bells and enchants viewers with its 32 lifesize moving figures three times per day. You will also see the Opera House and the Hofbrauhaus. Enjoy some time to shop before transferring to your alpine hotel in Austria for your seven night stay.
Day 3 Chiemsee and Berchtesgaden
Enjoy a short, pleasant drive to southern Germany and take a boat ride to see a magnificent palace on an island in the middle of Lake Chiemsee, which is the largest body of water in Bavaria. The Herrenchiemsee Palace is the third of King Ludwig II’s famous buildings, and is basically his version of Versailles, built almost 200 years earlier by his idol Louis XIV of France. It is a sumptuous and lavish palace with beautiful gardens and fountains in the most unlikely of settings. The palace was never finished, as construction was halted after Ludwig’s mysterious death. After a scenic drive through impressive valleys, we reach Berchtesgaden, a historic Bavarian Alpine village. Enjoy free time in the village nestled in this beautiful national park.
Day 4 Kufstein (Performance)
Enjoy exploring this historic Bavarian town. You can see the Kufstein Fortress as it towers above the city. Take time to walk the Romerhorgasse at leisure and explore the city center. As you walk through the city, you can hear the melodies of the open‐air organ playing throughout the town. Today's performance will be a promoted concert. Later in the day you will travel to Kitzbuhel where you will see a traditional alpine village that lies in the valley at the foot of the Kitzbuheler Horn.
Day 5 Ettal, Oberammergau, and Passion Play (Performance)
Return to Bavaria and visit the beautiful Abbey of Ettal, a working monastery founded in 1330. After the Black Plague, that was rampant in Europe, left their small village, the grateful people of Oberammergau promised God that they would show their gratitude by putting on a Passion Play. Over 380 years later you will get to enjoy this one‐of‐a‐kind, six hour musical and dramatic performance. You will have reserved seats, a guided tour of the town and motorcoach transfers to and from the play’s theater. Perform prior to the Passion Play in the Oberammergau area. Dinner in Oberammergau is included.
Day 6 Achensee (Performance)
Enjoy a short scenic drive to the beautiful Alpine lake, Achensee. Enjoy a boat ride on its beautiful waters, marvel in the majestic Alps, and savor a traditional apple strudel. This afternoon perform at a promoted concert in town or at a mission venue.
Day 7 Salzburg (Performance)
Begin a full‐day musical adventure as you explore the city of Mozart’s birth, Salzburg. You’ll visit the Cathedral and famous Horse Fountain. You’ll view Hellbrunn Castle, Mirabell Palace and ‐‐ from across the river ‐‐ see Leopoldskron Palace, which is famous as the film location for “The Sound of Music.” Today you will perform in Salzburg Dome, or one of the historic churches as well as in the town square.
Day 8 Innsbruck and Rattenburg
The capital of Austria’s Tyrol region, Innsbruck is famous as the site of two winter Olympics. Follow your guide on your half‐day morning tour through the quaint medieval streets of Old Town to the sparkling Golden Roof. The glittering sloping roof has been an opulent landmark since the 15th century. You’ll view Maria Theresa’s Imperial Palace, Triumphal Arch and visit the Hofkirche. Plus, you’ll have time to explore the medieval city on your own. This afternoon travel to the medieval village of Rattenberg for a glass ‐ blowing demonstration and free time to explore.
