Enjoy the rich architectural splendor of the ancient city of Athens as your guide introduces you to the world-renowned Acropolis, the Propylaea, the Parthenon and the Erectheum. Stand on Mars Hill as St. Paul did when he proclaimed, “I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you”. Journey to the city of Corinth, where St. Paul met fellow tentmakers Aquilla and Priscilla and received a vision from the Lord saying, “I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city”. As St. Paul spoke, Crispus and many others believed and were baptized, establishing the church at Corinth to whom Paul later wrote his two epistles. Discover the Archaeological Museum, Market Place and Temples. As you walk among the ruins, stand on the Bema, where the apostle St. Paul stood before Gallio to face charges brought against him by the local religious authorities. Stop briefly at the port town of Cenchreae from which St. Paul later departed for Syria. Enjoy lunch before boarding the Azamara Pursuit to begin your cruise.

Day 6 November 6 – Alexandria

Egypt’s second-largest city and largest seaport is an important tourist resort, founded around 331 B.C. by Alexander the Great. The constant warring in the region destroyed most of the ancient buildings, including the Great Library, but Pompey’s Pillar, located on Alexandria’s acropolis, still stands a tall 99 feet high since 297 A.D. Travel to Wadi el Natrun, known as Ancient Scetis. Visit Skete an ancient monastic community of Christians who still inhabit this area.

Day 7 November 7 - Cairo & Giza

Travel from Port Said and visit the Pyramids of Giza, constructed over 1,000 years before the birth of Moses. See the Great Sphinx and you will have the opportunity to ride a camel in the desert near the Pyramids. See modern Cairo and visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities to view the unique collection of Pharaonic art and the renowned treasures of King Tutankhamen. Visit Abu Serga, Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church built on the site of the Holy family’s home within Cairo.

Day 8 November 8 - Judean Wilderness

Journey to the oasis of Ein Gedi, & hike to the waterfall where David and his men sought refuge from Saul. Stop briefly at the Shores of the Dead Sea for a quick dip in the salt and mineral laden waters. On the way “Up” through the Judean Wilderness, stop at the Valley of the Shadows to look out toward St. George’s Monastery on the cliff. In Bethlehem, visit the cave where Jesus was born and the church which has been constructed on the site. Nearby, visit the Shepherds’ Field where the Good News was first heard.

Day 9 November 9 - Jerusalem

Stand atop the Mount of Olives for a remarkable view of the Old City from the East and walk the Temple Mount (conditions permitting). Walk down from the Mount of Olives and pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. Envison the scenes of the night before the crucifixion. Continue to Mount Zion to visit the House of the High Priest Caiaphas, where Jesus was questioned the night of His betrayal. Meditate on the events of the Last Supper as you visit the traditional location of the Upper Room. Walk the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross, and celebrate at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Day 10 November 10 - Galilee

Walk the recent excavations of the town of Magdala, connected with Mary Magdalene. Travel to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached to the people. At Tabgha, the traditional location for the calling of the disciples and the feeding of the 5,000, you’ll visit the Church of the Loaves and Fish. You will also visit the Chapel of the Primacy where three times St. Peter professed his devotion to the risen Christ. Celebrate the Eucharist as you sail across the Sea of Galilee. Travel to a local winery in the Golan and enjoy a wine tasting lunch.

Day 11 November 11 - Galilee

Visit Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home (Matt. 2:23) and see Mary’s Well and the Chapel of the Annunciation. Explore Sepphoris, the cosmopolitan Roman capital of Galilee until Herod Antipas built Tiberias. Journey to Tel Megiddo, an exciting archeological dig with layers of twenty different cities, all built on top of each other. View Mount Carmel and recall Elijah’s dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal.

Day 12 November 12 - Limassol

Sites to see include the Archaeological Museum of Limassol, which exhibits artifacts from the Neolithic to the Roman periods. Also, see the Folk Art Museum with a Cypriot Folk Art collection, awarded the Europa Nostra prize in 1989.

Shore excursions today will be booked directly through Azamara and are not included.

Day 13 November 13 - Side

Day 14 November 14 - Aspendos & Perge

Enjoy the day touring Perga and Aspendos, with ruins ranging from the Hellenistic era to the Roman period, including Roman Baths, Hellenistic Gates, and even an ancient stadium. Travel to Perge and wander the ruins of the ancient city. St. Paul and St. Barnabas arrived here along with Baranabas’ nephew John Mark, who abandoned the team from here. This proved to be a point of contention that eventually divided St. Paul and St. Barnabas.

Day 15 November 16 – At Sea

Day at sea.

Day 16 November 17 - Catania

Between the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Etna lies the beautiful city of Catania, where it’s “if it ain’t Baroque don’t fix it” architecture has earned it UNESCO World Heritage status. Along with flamboyantly designed buildings, Catania is home to many ancient sites, like the Odeon and Amphitheatre. Looming high above Catania (10,900 feet to be exact) is Mount Etna. Many people don’t consider a visit to Sicily complete without a visit to Europe’s most active volcano. Don’t even think about taking a nap on your travels up the mountain. The journey is incredibly scenic and lush with greenery, thanks to the mineral rich soil that the lava provides.

Shore excursions today will be booked directly through Azamara
