Arrive in Tel Aviv and transfer to Bethlehem for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Dec. 29 - Herodion / Church of the Nativity / Refugee Camp

Explore one of the most exciting archeological digs in Israel, the Herodion, the palace fortress and final resting place of Herod the Great. In Bethlehem, visit the cave revered as Jesus’ birthplace and see the Church of the Nativity constructed over the site (Matthew 1: 18 -25). Later in the afternoon, visit a nearby Refugee Camp. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Dec. 30 - Qasr el Yahud (Jordan River Baptismal Site) / Jericho / Qumran / Dead Sea Float

Visit the baptismal site of Qasr el Yahud, where tradition says Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Journey to Jericho (considered the oldest city in the world) to visit the ruins of the ancient city conquered by Joshua (Joshua 6:1). Continue to Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947. Enjoy an opportunity to take a dip in the mineral laden waters of the Dead Sea. Check in to your Nazareth hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 Dec. 31 - Nazareth / Galilee – Mount of Beatitudes / Tabgha / Magdala / Capernaum / Boat Ride / Transfer to Jerusalem Hotel

Begin your day with a visit to Cana, the site of Christ’s first miracle (John 2) before stopping in Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home (Matthew 2:23). On the Mount of Beatitudes, contemplate the “Sermon on the Mount” (Matt. 5-7). Visit the Church of the Fish and the Loaves in Tabgha, the traditional location of the feeding of the 5,000 (Luke 9:10-17). Enjoy beautiful Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry, and visit the synagogue located on the site where Jesus taught (Matthew 4:13, 23). Sail across the Sea of Galilee and experience a special onboard worship service. Check in to your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Jan. 1 - Jerusalem – Ascension Chapel / Mount of Olives / Gethsemane / Pool of Bethesda / Church of St. Anne / Antonia

Fortress (Lithostratos) / Via Dolorosa / Church of the Holy Sepulchre Begin today with a visit to the Chapel of the Ascension. Be inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Jerusalem (“the Golden City”) as you stand on the Mount of Olives, the place from which Jesus ascended into heaven forty days after His resurrection (Acts 1:9-12). Walk to the Garden of Gethsemane and pray beneath the ancient olive trees (Matthew 26:36 -44). Stand on the steps of the Pool of Siloam, where the blind man was healed (John 9). Sing a hymn in the Church of St. Anne, renowned for its beautiful acoustics. At Herod’s Antonia Fortress (Luke 23:1), see where Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate. Remember the Lord’s sacrificial love at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Check in to your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 Jan. 2 - Jerusalem - Temple Mount / Cardo / City of David Excavations / Warren’s Shaft / Hezekiah’s Tunnel / Southern Wall Excavations / Western Wall

This morning, conditions permitting, stand on the Temple Mount where the Jewish Temple once stood and the Dome of the Rock now stands. Take a leisurely stroll down the Cardo, the main street of the Old City where modern shops stand among ancient ones. Outside of the city walls, visit the City of David where you see the Gihon Spring, Hezekiah’s Tunnel and the Pool of Siloam. Peer down Warren’s Shaft, thought for years to have served as a fresh water drawing point for the city and how Joab entered the city and opened it to David’s forces. Explore Hezekiah’s Tunnel, an amazing engineering feat that was dug from each end and met in the middle! (Note: Those who are claustrophobic may want to meet the group at the other end of the tunnel!) Explore the Davidson Center and the Southern Wall Excavations, including the Teaching Steps and the Western Wall.

Day 8 Jan. 3 - Jerusalem – Israel Museum (Morning) / afternoon free in Jerusalem / Return to hotel and prepare for return flights – overnight if morning flight

Understand better the Jerusalem of Jesus’ day with a look at the First Century Model of the City of Jerusalem, now housed at the Israel Museum. The museum itself houses 10,000 years of archeological artifacts. Also visit the Shrine of the Book, where the Book of Isaiah, discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls, is displayed. Enjoy a free afternoon on your own in Jerusalem. Prepare for your flights home.

Day 9 Jan. 4 - Return to USA

Return home.
