Begin your touring in the Holy Land by visiting the Herodion, the fortified palace and final resting place of Herod the Great. In Bethlehem, visit the cave where Jesus was born and the church which has been constructed on the site (Matthew 1: 18 -25; Luke 2:1 -7). Nearby, visit the Shepherds’ Field where the Good News was first heard. Overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 4 Thurs March 24 – Jacob’s Well, Samaria, Nazareth, Cana

Today visit modern day Nablus (ancient Shechem) and see Jacob’s well where Christ encountered the Samaritan woman (John 4). See Mt. Ebal and Mt. Gerizim where the Israelites recited the blessings and cursings of the Law. Continue to Samaria, the capital of the Northern Kingdom, and home to Ahab and Jezebel. Continue past Tel Dothan, thought to be the place where Joseph found his brothers with their flocks (Genesis 37). Visit Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home (Matthew 2: 23). Walk through a presentation of life in Jesus’ day at Nazareth Village. Continue on to Cana, the site of Christ’s first miracle. Check in to your Galilee hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 Fri March 25 – The Galilee

With Bible in hand, cross the waters of the Sea of Galilee. Along the way, participate in a special onboard worship service. Travel to Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry in the Galilee. Visit the synagogue which stands on the site where Jesus taught. Recall his teaching and preaching the gospel of the kingdom (Matt. 4:13, 23). Travel to the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus preached to the people (Matt. 5-7). Walk the streets of Bethsaida, one of the “cities of woe” mentioned by Jesus in Matthew 11 and where Jesus chose five of His disciples (Matt. 4: 18 -21; John 1: 39 -51). Walk the streets of Chorazim, also listed as a “city of woe” by Jesus. At Tabgha, the traditional location for the calling of the disciples and the feeding of the 5000, you’ll visit the Church of the Fish and the Loaves (Luke 9:10-17). You’ll also visit the Chapel of the Primacy where three times Peter professed his devotion to the risen Christ (John 21).

Day 6 Sat March 26 – Magdala, Hazor, Tel Dan, Caesarea Philippi

Walk the recent excavations of the town of Magdala, connected with Mary Magdalene. Hazor was later fortified by Solomon as a chariot city and the park here has a representation of a Jewish Home from the First Century. Visit Tel Dan, one of ancient Israel’s boundary markers - “From Dan to Beersheba”. Visit Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus traveled with His disciples and where nearby Peter made his great confession to Jesus, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matt. 16:16). Return to Tiberias via the Golan Heights for your final overnight in the Galilee.

Day 7 Sun March 27 – Beit Shean, Megiddo, Mount Carmel and Caesarea

Visit Beit Shean, a city continuously inhabited for over 5,000 years. This is the city where Saul and his sons’ bodies were hung from its walls (1 Sam. 31). The uncovered ruins date back to the Greek / Roman city that was part of the Decapolis of Jesus’ day. Travel the ancient caravan route through the Jezreel Valley to Tel Megiddo, an exciting archeological dig with its layers of twenty different cities built on top of each other. Continue on your journey to Mount Carmel where Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). Biblically, Mount Carmel is referenced most often as a symbol of beauty and fertility. Visit the Roman Aqueduct and Theatre at Caesarea, a center of early Christianity and where Paul was imprisoned for two years (Acts 10). Check in to your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 8 Mon March 28 – Jericho, Qumran, and the Dead Sea, Bethany

Visit Qasr el Yahud, the traditional site of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Participate in a baptismal service in the river in which Christ was baptized by John the Baptist (Mark 1: 9 -11). Stop in Jericho, the oldest known inhabited city in the world. Visit the ruins of the ancient city, which was conquered by Joshua (Josh. 6: 1, 2, 20) and see parts of the ancient city walls which have been uncovered. From Jericho you can see the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus (Matt. 4: 1-11) and the Judean wilderness. Travel to Qumran, site of the Dead Sea Scroll discovery, to discuss the mysterious community of Essenes who once lived on the shores of the Dead Sea. Stop briefly at the Shores of the Dead Sea for a quick dip in the salt and mineral-laden waters. Visit Bethany, the home of Lazarus, Mary and Martha. Here Jesus visited on several occasions, and raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11).

Day 9 Tues March 29 – Jerusalem

Drive to the Mount of Olives this morning. See Bethphage, where the disciples were sent to find the donkey for the Palm Sunday entry into Jerusalem (Luke 19). Stand atop the Mount of Olives as Jesus did and enjoy a remarkable view of the “Golden City” of Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount and Dome of the Rock. Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1: 9 -12). Walk to the Garden of Gethsemane and pray there as Jesus prayed (Matt. 26:36 -44). On Mount Zion you will view the site of King David’s Tomb. Stand in the Upper Room, revered as the site of the Last Supper (Mark 14: 12 -26). Walk through some of the ancient rooms of Caiaphas’ the High Priest’s house beneath the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu. Here Jesus was held overnight before His crucifixion (Luke 22). Finally, walk through the City of David Excavations and continue to the Pool of Siloam, where Jesus healed the blind man (John 9). End the day at the Western Wall and the Teaching Steps of Jesus.

Day 10 Wed March 30 – Jerusalem

This morning visit the Temple Mount and enjoy a walking tour of the Old City of Jerusalem. View the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-31) where Jesus performed the Sabbath miracle. Visit Herod’s Antonia Fortress where Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate (Luke 23: 1-11). Walk the Via Dolorosa, “the Way of the Cross”, and stand in reverence at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Walk the Cardo, the ancient main street of the Old City once lined with shops and now partially restored. Visit the Davidson Center and the Southern Wall Excavations including the Teaching Steps, the Western Wall. Visit the Garden Tomb, possible site of the garden of Joseph of Arimathea and experience the reality of the Resurrection.
