Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Jan. 14 – Atlanta & Montgomery

(Note - Those arriving through EO on the 13th will have included a visit to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. This museum is dedicated to the achievements of the Civil Rights movement in America and the broader Human Rights movements around the world.)

Those arriving on their own to Atlanta are requested to meet with the group by 12:30 pm at the Atlanta Airport (instructions on where to meet at the airport will be sent with finals).  This afternoon, you’ll visit the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, also known as the Lynching Memorial. Check in to your hotel.  Dinner on own.

Day 2 Jan. 15 – Montgomery and Selma

This morning, visit the Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue, the King Memorial Church and the Dexter Parsonage Museum.  Travel the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, and conditions permitting, walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Return to your Montgomery Hotel for overnight.  Dinner on own.

Day 3 Jan. 16 – Selma and Marion

This morning, enjoy a visit the Brown Chapel AME Church and Selma Interpretative Center.  This afternoon, continue to visit the Marion Interpretive Center and the Memorial to Viola Liuzzo. Finish the day at your Birmingham Hotel.  Dinner on own.

Note - Time permitting, you’ll visit the 16th St. Baptist Church in Birmingham.  

Day 4 Jan. 17 – Birmingham

Today you’ll experience the heartbeat of the movement at the  Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and learn more about the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950’s and 60’s. Afterward, visit Kelly Ingram Park and Bethel Baptist Church. Return to Hotel for dinner on your own and overnight.

Day 5 Jan. 18 – Anniston

This morning, make your last stop in Anniston at the  Freedom Riders National Monument in Anniston. See the former Greyhound Bus Station, where in 1961, a mob attacked the integrated group of white and black Freedom Riders promoting the Federal ruling that Interstate bus travel could not be segregated. Then stop at the site of the bus burning.  Then travel to the Atlanta airport to drop off those flying home today. Those staying for the Optional Atlanta Day will continue to their hotel in Atlanta. Jan. 19 - Return Home
Leave your room by check out time and transfer to the airport for your return flights.
