Day 1 Aug. 22 – Depart USA
Depart on your international overnight flight.
Day 2 Aug. 23 - Arrive in Geneva / Transfer to Lausanne
Arrive in Geneva and transfer to the city of Lausanne, a beautiful city settled along the north shores of Lake Geneva. While touring the city of Lausanne you will see the beautiful 18th century architecture, as well as the 13th century Lausanne Cathedral. Check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight in the Lausanne area (near multiple restaurant choices). (D)
Day 3 Aug. 24 – Gruyeres and Chillon Castle
Take time to explore the medieval stronghold of Gruyere, a charming hilltop town surrounded by a wall and dominated by a castle. You can sample the local cheese and learn how it is made. Walk the grounds of Chillon Castle, that has stood watch over the trade route to the south of Lake Geneva for over 800 years. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B)
Day 4 Aug. 25 – Zermatt and the Matterhorn
Today travel to the mountain town Zermatt, where only horse-drawn vehicles are permitted. Explore the village and enjoy its magnificent view of the Matterhorn. Take an optional cog-wheel train ride up Gornergrat Mountain (Included) for breath-taking, up-close views. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B)
Day 5 Aug. 26 – Interlaken and Bern
This morning travel to Interlaken, the heart of Switzerland. Flower-lined streets and the surrounding mountains will be familiar postcard images to you. Also familiar will be the towering nearby peaks of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Monch. Enjoy free time to wander, shop and explore this town between two lakes. Travel across incredible Swiss mountain ranges, catch glimpses of glaciers and travel through breathtaking mountains. This afternoon travel to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The city centre of Bern recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural World Heritage site. Bern is known for its largely medieval city centre and its famous Zytglogge, an elaborate medieval clock tower with moving puppets. The city centre is built around the Munster, a 15th century Gothic cathedral. Check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 6 Aug. 27 – Neuchatel
Enjoy a day trip to Neuchatel, home to 32 sites listed as Swiss heritage sites! Visit the Castle of Neuchatel, overlooking the city. The first stone castle was built here in the 12th Century. Spend time in the Old Town, filled with homes dating from the 16th and 17th Centuries. The Town Hall dates to 1788, and the Des Halles is marked with towers and the coat of arms of the Orleans-Longuevilles. Return to Bern for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 7 Aug. 28 – Geneva
This morning, travel to Geneva, capital of the canton with the same name and seat of many international organizations. Upon arrival you will visit many sites including The World Council of Churches, UN Palace, St. Pierre’s Cathedral, the Reformation Monument, Rousseau Island, the Flower Clock and many other highlights of this bustling international and financial city. You will have plenty of free time exploring this beautiful city before you turn in at your hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
