Day 2 Arrival
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport. Overnight in Bethlehem area.
Day 3 Bethlehem, Holy Places & Biblical Discoveries
Enter the Church of the Nativity, the oldest continuously functioning church in the world. See the cave where tradition holds Jesus was born. Look out on the Shepherds’ Field, where angels spread the Good News. Visit the Herodion, winter palace of Herod the Great and his final resting place. Read and discuss the stories of the kings of Israel. Visit the Museum of Bethlehem with displays of the daily life of Palestine from the time of Jesus till the 1950’s. Overnight in Bethlehem area.
Day 4 Bethlehem, The Living Stones & Local Ministries
This day is dedicated to the Living Stones of the Holy Land. Your Group Leader will select several Christian sites in Bethlehem and/or Jerusalem (see list in box) where you can meet students, professors and other Christians who live in the area and learn of their daily experiences. Overnight in Bethlehem area.
Day 5 Holy Places and Archaeological Discoveries
Travel to Qumran, site of the Dead Sea Scrolls discovery, to discuss the mysterious community of Essenes who once lived on these shores. Time permitting, stop briefly at the shore of the Dead Sea. Visit the newly opened Baptismal Site (Qasar el Yahud) near Jericho. Visit the ruins of ancient Jericho, which was conquered by Joshua (Josh. 6: 1, 2, 20). From Jericho, you can view the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus (Matt. 4: 1-11). Travel the road from Jericho to Jerusalem, which twists for miles as it weaves through the Judean Mountains, ascending from below to above sea level. Visit the nearby Roman Road which Jesus traveled and used as the setting of his parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 30-36). Overnight in Bethlehem area.
Day 6 The Galilee of Jesus, Holy Places & Biblical Discoveries
Depart Bethlehem in the early morning and travel north to the Galilee. Sail across the waters and see the "Ancient Boat" on display at Nof Ginosar. At Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry, visit the synagogue which stands on the site where he taught. Recall his teaching and preaching of the gospel (Matt.4:13, 23). At Tabgha, the traditional location for the calling of the disciples and the feeding of the 5,000, you'll visit the Church of the Loaves and the Fishes (Luke 9:10-17). Visit the peaceful Mount of Beatitudes, which overlooks the Sea of Galilee. On this hill, Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. Overnight in Nazareth.
Day 7 Megiddo, the Living Stones of Ibillin & Nazareth
Visit ancient Megiddo where layer upon layer of civilizations have built on the same strategic site. Travel to Ibillin to visit and converse with Archbishop Elias Chacour, world-famous author and founder of a remarkable school. View Nazareth from the Precipice. Visit the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth. Overnight in Nazareth.
Day 8 Jacob’s Well, Jifnah, and Taybah
Travel to Samaria (also known as Sebastia) near present-day Nablus (also known as Shechem), where according to tradition, John the Baptist's head was sent. Stop at the Jacob's well, where Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman (John 4). Draw water from the well and take a sip for yourself. Meet the priest who helped complete this huge church and learn about the community he serves. Time permitting, travel to Jifnah to meet the local woman who owns an ancient olive press that operated until just a decade ago. Continue to Taybeh, the only 100% Christian town in Palestine/Israel. Visit the Old Town, talk with the locals, visit the Church of St. George, explore the ancient house/museum which is similar to homes in the time of Jesus. Overnight in Taybeh.
Day 9 Jerusalem of Gold, Holy Places and Yad Vashem
Begin the day with a visit to Yad Vashem. Visit the Princess Basma Center for Disabled Children or Augusta Victoria Hospital. Stand atop the Mount of Olives as Jesus did and enjoy a remarkable view of the "Golden City" of Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount and Dome of the Rock. View the Kidron Valley as you walk the Palm Sunday Path. Pray in the Garden of Gethsemane as Jesus prayed (Matt.26: 36 - 44). On Mount Zion, visit the House of the High Priest Caiaphas where Jesus was imprisoned for a night (Matt. 26: 57 - 65). Stand in the Upper Room, revered as the place of the Last Supper (Mark 14: 12 - 26). Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 10 The Old City of Jerusalem, Holy Places and the Living Stones
This morning, join your fellow travelers in the JCBS Classroom at the Olive Tree Hotel where guest lecturer Dr. Mustafa Abu Sway of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Quds University will speak on the topic: “What It is Like for Muslims to Live in Jerusalem.” There will be time for Group Discussion led by your Group Leader. Topics can be provided by the leader or JCBS can provide suggestions (see list). This morning, the group will check out of the hotel and depart the hotel before lunch Explore the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Pray at the Western Wall. Closing worship at the Garden Tomb. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the Old City of Jerusalem. Return to the hotel for dinner. Depart for the airport to fly to the USA.
Day 11 Return to US
Return home with memories to share with family and friends.
